Dear Friends,
ARK is an Alternative Art Space, Gallery, Stage and Studios that Robert Deblasis and Kira Vollman have built in a 1928 building on Fair Oaks Ave., in Altadena. We took a “down to the studs”, gutted shell, and turned it into a really lovely, small gallery, and artists day/work studios. The layout of the building is such that we are able to have a small stage and have a small audience seated in the gallery.
ARK has had the honor of hosting some of the most inventive and creative musicians to come out of the Los Angeles ‘New Music’ scene as well as new music visionaries from outside of Los Angeles. We continue to do so:

ARK continues with the 3rd offering in its New Music Concert Series. We are pleased to be presenting: duo B. – Jason Levis, percussion and Lisa Mezzacappa, acoustic bass. This year, duo B. has embarked on a new journey in long-form improvisation with its latest project, an exploration of the musical vision of pianist Cecil Taylor, re-imagined for bass and drums. “…mysterious, complexly textured improvisations that sometimes take shape as the aural equivalent of abstract expressionist paintings, whether the ethereal, mystical canvasses of Mark Rothko or the jittery, splatter techniques of Jackson Pollock.”
— Derk Richardson, KPFA
We will end our evening concert with Schwartz/Sharp/Valsamis. The trio of Jeff Schwartz – double bass, Charles Sharp – woodwinds, and Peter Valsamis – percussion, performs improvised music drawing on the traditions of free jazz, new music and diverse world music’s.
